I am so so so so so so exhausted.
The family has been in town all weekend and they finally left this morning. On top of that, Handsome and I started our bar review class this morning, which meant we had to be out of the house by 8am. And finally, yesterday was one of the longest days of my life. It was also really great. It was a great long great day. This weekend was a great long great long weekend.
I am now a law school graduate with a juris doctorate. Yah me! But, said graduation required that I get up at 5am to get dressed and get to the hotel by 7am to direct my family to NYC for the graduation, which started at 11am. I know, I know…you’re thinking “Why did you have to get to the hotel at 7am for an 11am graduation?” Well, here’s why. First, because trying to coordinate 17 people takes time. Second, because it took a good hour to get into the city and park; and then we had to walk to the subway and take that downtown; and then we had to get the family into line so that we could go inside at the official “Graduates Arrive at 9:30am” time. Which was crap because all they did was have us stand in line for the next hour…annoying!
Anyways, following our 4-hour graduation, everyone headed back uptown for a reception at the law school. Which, let me tell you, was a HUGE disappointment. Let’s just say that our school tends to serve hot and passed hors d’oeuvres and open bars at everything. Well, for a reception which would include all of its graduates’ families, they decided that not enough cheese and water would be perfect. WTF!?!?
We decided to leave and go to our dinner reservation early, which was another ordeal all in itself. The restaurant did not officially take reservations, but we had finally spoken to someone high enough up that marked our party of 17 in the hostess’ black book. We only chose this restaurant because it was near the school and everywhere else we tried would not do a party of 17 unless we agreed to a prix fixe menu. Well, since we are all family and not a school organization, a prix fixe menu was not going to work. So, we settled on this restaurant and were assured that even though they didn’t take reservations normally, they would with us.
Well, we get to the restaurant and the manager on duty has no idea what we’re talking about. And, on top of that he finally seats us at a table that has a huge pillar in the middle and isn’t really a table, but 4 different shaped tables shoved together. Let’s just say that I couldn’t see half the people at the table because of this.
Then, one of my guests got SUPER SUPER SICK towards the end of dinner. In fact, she had gone to the bathroom and a little later someone from another party came by our table saying that someone by my guest’s name was in the bathroom very sick. We ran down and she was laying on the floor unable to even hold her head up. The manager (the same one that had no idea their was a party of 17 coming) came down to see if everything was alright and one of the first lines out of his mouth was “It’s not the food.” Um…hello?!? Does it really look like I’m blaming you right now?? Or, does it look more like one of my guests is sick and I’m taking care of that?? Yea…I think the second one…so back off buddy! Anyways, we finally had to call an ambulance and take her to the hospital. She is fine today and they think either she had an allergic reaction (she had lobster and shrimp for dinner) or just a really bad GI problem. Or both. Or something else all together. They were really specific.
Anyways…that’s been my weekend. Stressful. Tiring. Exhausting.
I’m out to take a nap.
I can’t believe the manager said that! Crazy.
BUT you graduated! Congrats!
p.s. Did I just pop your comment cherry on this blog?
